Great Questions to Ask

What is Executive Coaching?

Executive Coaching is professional development at an individual level.

Many people who have been curious about Executive Coaching wonder if it’s like therapy. While therapy is certainly a worthwhile endeavor for many, Executive Coaching is radically different. It’s like comparing Physical Therapy to Personal Training.  Therapy is focused on reconciling the past; Coaching is focused on informing the future. What you want to do.  What you want to accomplish.  You’ll develop the skills and learn practices you need to achieve your goals.

OK, but what is it like?  How is it done?

Great coaching feels like a challenging conversation that is supportive, non-judgmental and productive.

It requires attention, curiosity, effort, and just the right amount of discomfort to nudge you forward.  It can feel as demanding as learning a new language with the instant relief of a chiropractic adjustment.  Each session will leave you better off.  We’ll start by exploring your current obstacles and work our way up from there.

Who is coaching for?

Executive coaching is for anyone who wants to maximize their contributions and their sense of fulfillment.

It’s an investment in time and attention that provides a greater return of time and attention. Are you feeling overwhelmed? Avoidant? Insecure? Dissatisfied with your contributions or with those of the people around you?  This is for you.

How do I know if coaching is right for me, at this time?

Any initial engagement requires a no-fee introductory coaching session to determine whether this is the right approach for you, and the right time.

What’s different about your approach to coaching?

My coaching sessions are completely personalized to the needs of the individual.

I have expertise in Applied Neuroscience, Positive Psychology, Emotional Intelligence, Applied Compassion, Nonviolent Communication, Change Theory, Leadership Development, Contemplative Practice, and Employee Engagement. This broad base of knowledge allows me to tailor each of my engagements to the needs and interests of the individual.

Which assessments do you use?

I do not use or recommend any assessment tools to use in our work— and for good reason. Our time is precious, and  your attention is limited.

Our work will focus on real-time situations, which we will transform into case studies to develop skills you can apply forward, not just in this particular case. Our goal will be to identify, develop, and practice skills that are consistent with your intentions and your values.

Assessments tend to be lucrative add-ons for large coaching organizations – they are automated, they require a considerable investment in time on the client’s part, and they produce a mass amount of data that can serve as an unintended distraction.

Why limit engagements to 3 months?

I intentionally offer short, robust engagements. This succinct timeline is a forcing function that keeps us connected to our intention: to build independence in continued practice.

Our sense of purpose keeps us energized and offers little opportunity to talk theoretically – our work is focused on active learning, developing healthy habits that serve you best, and self-sustaining practices.

What information will you share with my organization / my supervisor?

The foundation of our work is trust, safety, and candor. Our conversations are strictly confidential. There is no opportunity for triangulation; we work one on one.

I will, however, encourage you to build trusting relationships by sharing some of your insights with others at your workplace. It is your decision whether or not to do this, and with whom.
